Sweat, Swat, and Swear 25k+ 2018

Posted on August 4, 2018July 16, 2019

I was supposed to do a 50K today at the inaugural Sweat, Swat, and Swear 50k. I was supposed to pack sunscreen and not throat spray. I think I was supposed to turn right and then left. Anyway, sometimes things don’t go according to plan. Instead I ran a nice, pleasant 10K trail, then a longtime acquaintance decided to join me on a hike. “Every mistake or failure ever made by Seth Kramer, real or perceived, 1981-2018”. So that was unpleasant. Sometime around mile 15 I realized I had gotten lost and had to actually laugh out loud at the thought “I don’t have the time to review all of my mistakes right now, I need to fix this mistake I just made.“ I had added 5 miles to the course, and decided maybe 25K will be good enough for today. So, what I learn today? I learned the Withlacoochee State Forest is as beautiful as its name is silly. I learned I need to take my pledge to not take myself too seriously a little more seriously. I returned where I left the course and just came in as if I was doing the 25k and called it a day. I have the worst sense of direction ever. Fun race, hot day. 6/5 stars would recommend (provided I can find it.)

“On second thought, let’s not go to Withlacoochee. ‘‘Tis a silly place.”
On the left is a trail blaze. It indicates you are on A trail. On the right is a confidence flag. It indicates that you are on THE trail. The definite versus indefinite article makes all the difference, but of course today somehow I was just happy to see orange. It’s my first day. 😂
Some of the morning trails.
I have the worst sense of direction. I got lost last weekend going into a coffee shop I was parked in front of.
Somehow in the darkness before I left this morning I grabbed this, thinking it was my spray-on sunscreen. Upshot: the back of my neck has never smelled better.

Reminds me of the Seuss trees. Where is the Lorax when you need him?
Finisher’s shirt, though continuing our theme I didn’t look at the size so I may have a tent for next year. 😆
