I was supposed to do a 50K today at the inaugural Sweat, Swat, and Swear 50k. I was supposed to pack sunscreen and not throat spray. I think I was supposed to turn right and then left. Anyway, sometimes things don’t go according to plan. Instead I ran a nice, pleasant 10K trail, then a longtime acquaintance decided to join me on a hike. “Every mistake or failure ever made by Seth Kramer, real or perceived, 1981-2018”. So that was unpleasant. Sometime around mile 15 I realized I had gotten lost and had to actually laugh out loud at the thought “I don’t have the time to review all of my mistakes right now, I need to fix this mistake I just made.“ I had added 5 miles to the course, and decided maybe 25K will be good enough for today. So, what I learn today? I learned the Withlacoochee State Forest is as beautiful as its name is silly. I learned I need to take my pledge to not take myself too seriously a little more seriously. I returned where I left the course and just came in as if I was doing the 25k and called it a day. I have the worst sense of direction ever. Fun race, hot day. 6/5 stars would recommend (provided I can find it.)
