Fort4Fitness Marathon 2018

Posted on September 29, 2018July 23, 2019
Lifetime big long thing #169 complete in Fort Wayne, Indiana at the Fort4Fitness marathon, a standard “finish in the sports arena” event. Two loops nearly identical to one another on a suburban course. I was the dead last starter due to a flub with my phone not changing over to eastern time from Chicago and my general goofiness. Despite the “Summit City“ nickname, the course is quite flat, although I did hear one of the 10K folks whingeing around mile five about the “hills.” Even by Florida standards this was nothing. Great community support and aid stations. My only complaint is that your bib came with a coupon for a one dollar beer rather than just beer. This does seem to be a particularly first-world complaint considering the entry fee was only $26.20, but I don’t generally carry cash on race, so at most they take Apple Pay… Fun fact: the first professional baseball game in America was played in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Fort Wayne Kekiongas beat the Cleveland Forest Citys in a 2-0 shutout in 1871 shortly after the national Association of professional baseball players was formed in New York City.
The hipster game is strong with this one.

I like beer. Boys and girls like beer. Do you like beer?
They do not appreciate it when you pronounce it ‘Penis Bank’
I dunno I had however many the chart says.

Bib. The theme was superheroes. May I draw your attention to the tomfoolery in the lower right? Dollar beer isn’t a problem per se, again I want to stress that this was a VERY cheap race, but the logistics of it means you need to check a bag with your wallet or go out to your car (no readmittance). All for want of a dollar. I garruntee you I wouldn’t have balked at a $30 registration. Oh well, who needs a beer at 11am anyway?
