Sometimes a plan just falls apart. I was supposed to do five 10k loops at Jacks Trail 50k today. But because I’m an idiot who wouldn’t wear his sunglasses I drove into a curb and screwed up my wheel. Since it’s Sunday and nothing opens in the area until the late morning I decided to at least start the race. Once I started calling around to find out how to take care of the issue so that I could return to work it became apparent that I couldn’t screw around at a race anymore after 2 loops. So sadly I am a DNF for stupid practical reasons. It was a beautiful and much cooler day today, and the trails were quite nice. I didn’t really use any of the aid stations because I only ran 12 miles and I had a Camelbak. However I do have one issue: the first loop many of us went the wrong direction at a certain point of the trail. In and of itself that isn’t a problem, I have been known to get lost from time to time. But what is particularly odd to me about this instance is that the race director was standing at the point where that wrong turn was made by not just me but a whole pile of people and said nothing. That was weird. Supremely weird. We fixed it on 2nd Loop, but the leaders wound up coming at us on the singletrack trail quite fast. Anyway, everybody makes mistakes even hear some idiot ran into a curb this weekend. Fun fact: Front end alignment, tire, and wheel damage costs more than a plane ticket to Boise. Also rental cars in Flagler County are pretty cheap.
