Palm Beaches Marathon 2018

Posted on December 2, 2018July 17, 2019
30th Florida marathon done at the Palm Beaches Marathon. A flat, road marathon along the intercoastal waterway. They somehow managed to make the course even more dull than last year by removing the portion in Palm Beach. So rightly this is the West Palm Beach Marathon. Support folks were great but the sun was relentless and I found the doodley course monotonous, particularly the second half. I believe if I do this race again I may restrict myself to the half. Fun fact: Just North of the northernmost turnaround at Manatee Lagoon in bicentennial park you can take a shuttle boat to Peanut Island, a man-made island between Palm Beach Shores and Riviera Beach. On this island President John F Kennedy had a presidential nuclear bunker built. It’s now open to the public.
As Bob Becker likes to say “Hot with a capital F”
I was happy to see pacer extraordinaire Dale, who I missed at JFK 50 this year, on a rare day off the clock.
The Breakers, the hotel that Palm Beach was founded around. The original Breakers has been rebuilt sever times after fires.
Sunrise over Palm Beach and the inter-coastal waterway
Globetrotter Kevin Hanna is a blur, maybe he’s born with it, maybe I’m a terrible photographer.
Christmas Dragon? That’s a thing? Okay. That’s a thing.
Maria Fletcher does it with a smile
Marcela Todd deserves a better picture. Great to see this beacon of positivity
Today was my best friend Amy‘s 99th half marathon. Unfortunately I can’t be there for her hundredth next weekend in South Carolina, but she has inspired me and others for years and she reminds me how much one person’s decision to offer kindness can change so many. She challenges me to be a better person, and I’m lucky to have had the opportunity to have spent so much time with her and people like her.
Chester Kalb is unstoppable
Amy Guimond, half marathoner, parent teacher counselor. 😊
Heather Schry, South Florida Marathon Maniac AmBADASSador, brings the popsicles and beer. She’s the best
Palm Beach has got some serious Airedale game
Kevin Cochrane thrashes the competition
While I did find the course boring, there were a number of nice properties which I decided to represent with a single picture here.
Bib
Medal
Shirt, weirdly once again the marathon shirt is long sleeve, and the half is a short sleeve
