Miami Marathon 2019

Posted on January 27, 2019July 18, 2019
Another Miami Marathon. Rain stayed in check mostly, some winds but not bad. There was a course change this year effectively reversing the direction of the last 13 miles from previous years. I don’t know how I feel about that change. Instinct is that I liked the old way, but that may be me just not dealing with change well. Fun fact: Miami is bounded by two national parks: the Everglades to the west, and Biscayne National Park to the east.
Study in contrasts with yesterday’s chill little ultra
Peruanos. Bonus Fun Fact: The Miami Marathon is the third most international marathon in the US, after New York and Boston, with 84 countries represented.
Always great to watch the cruise ships head out in the first few miles.
A knock off of Robert Indiana’s famous LOVE sculpture as a tourist trap in front of a Jewish Temple. That’s so Miami Beach.
That’s a lie. I was going way faster than 90…
Paul at the 5k point
Local Miami Beach celebrity runner Raven runs every day, rain or shine, even through hurricanes. If you’ve never had the opportunity to run with Raven, give it a shot. He’s nutty as hell (he was talking cockamamie communist conspiracy stuff) and he could use the help he seems to be blind as a bat.
It’s 26.2 somewhere.
Miami Beach Art Deco center
Another local running celebrity, Fort Lauderdale’s own Coatman, Dennis Marsella. He’s relatively normal, you know, for a guy who’s run more than 100 marathons in this getup.
Maniac Ambadassador Heather Schry hands out popsicles on on Brickell.
Dude seems to like to make it harder on himself. Wool (mismatched) socks, some sort of sweatshorts, a beanie, and of course the book bag. 🤷🏼‍♂️
I’m always happy to see liquors—er, lickers on the course
The bib design. Corral H for “Happy to finish”
The medal has a little rotator that lets you switch it from night and day. The new inscrutable tagline for the marathon is “It’s not Miami without you” I suppose it can’t be any more silly than “Miami famous”
Shirt design is cool
