Another rough and inconsistent day today at the Skidaway Marathon, in Savannah, Georgia for Lifetime Marathon 197. Course was flat, weather was relatively cool, but persistent glute pain made for a rough day. Good news is that I was able to spend most of my race with Smiley and Shelly who were bright spots on an otherwise dark, blue sky day. However the course is a little monotonous. If you’ve seen one coastal Carolina course you’ve seen them all. Fortunately I finished and had dinner and drinks with my favorite wine and cheese gurus and a special guest puppy. Fun fact: On General Sherman’s famous “March to the Sea” at the close of the US Civil War, rather than burn the city as was done in cities like Atlanta, Sherman offered Savannah to Lincoln as a Christmas gift, he probably also spared Savannah this fate so his men had a comfortable place to stay once the march ended.
