This weekend was supposed to be a double, but after a first day finish of almost 6 hours it was clear I’m doing myself no favors. I thought long and hard about whether or not to do the second day and went with no. That messes up my scheduled 200, but maybe this experience will teach me not to be so critical about “bad” performances that would have beaten this by an hour. Anyway the course, a rolling downhill into a single turn at 11 with 15 miles of flat out and back. There are pretty parts, there’s also an awful lot of trash in the ditches, support was meh, the community seems hostile, and having a car roll up on me at 4:30 to tell me “I’m gonna let you finish” but they were going to start taking down the aid stations was new. Thanks Kanye. I wouldn’t do this race again evidenced by the fact that I didn’t do it today and it was already a sunk cost, but it was great to see so many friends, unfortunately I forgot to photograph many. Fun fact: Author and dentist Zane Grey settled in Lackawaxen, PA with his wife, sister and mother where he began to focus exclusively on writing. His home is now a museum where the shuttle bus picked us up.
