Go! St. Louis 2019

Posted on April 7, 2019July 22, 2019
Big Long Thing (marathon or longer) #200 complete at the Go! St. Louis Marathon in Missouri. Not as hilly as I expected but several seemingly endless climbs. I was tired but semi-functional today, so that’s a good sign. Great volunteers made the somewhat dull course more interesting though I loved the finish. Oodles of amigos here today and yesterday as well as meeting a new friend were reminders of why this appeals to me. Big thanks to Colleen for hosting all of us in her home, making dinner, and dealing with cranky traveling people. Fun fact: The 1908 (correction: 1904) Olympic marathon was so catastrophic that it almost got the signature Olympic event jettisoned from competition. The story includes cheating, poison, brandy, untrained runners on dusty streets with no water, and even one runner being chased off course by a dog.

Dad joke, and a new to me sign.

I think Jun meant to give me different fingers
This is Rob Thomas. Not that one, a different one. We ran together for about 5 miles. We had both done the hogeye the day before. He is one of those brave souls doing the 50 states from a hard-to-reach location (Montana) he was having a rough morning and I was just trying to keep it together in the last few miles also I just wanted to be able to say “Thank you, Rob Thomas”

I hadn’t seen Hyalker L. Amaral in some time and it was great to meet his IRun4 buddy, Katy

Nice!
Thomas Gibson rocking the Beer:30 pace. He came in right on time as I understand. Happy birthday, BTW!
Doodle!
This was American AF!
Allison Leer met a friend as well. Was it Gail? I blame sleep and oxygen deprivation.
And now I have that stuck in my head

Shirt. Long sleeve.
They even gave me a special 200 bib. I was quite impressed for a large road marathon that they would even care. Whoever arranged for it, thank you.
Medal
And Ted Drewes frozen custard ice cream sandwich for finishers. One of the other runners said in the last mile and a half “I bet you it’s all melted” there’s a special place in hell for that lady. No one needs that kind of negativity.
