ENOUGH ALREADY

It's been 8 days! 8 goddamn days since Election Day and every Tom, Tommy, Rudy, and John have announced they are officially running for President.

Guys: GIVE IT A REST!

Hey, I like politics as much--okay, more--than the next guy, but DAMN! Could I have a couple weeks to recover? For cryin' out loud, the new Congress hasn't even been sworn in yet.

This is all I'm going to say until '07 at least.

Tom Vilsack: He's from Iowa. That's why you've never heard of him. That's also why he'll never win. Still it's nice to have a candidate named after pickles.

Tommy Thompson: Former HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson announce he'd be running. That would be Bush's former HHS Secretary. He's got two problems. (1) Bush, (2) Tommy? If you want to become President people have to start referring to you as if you were not recently given a detention.

Rudolf Giuliani: Former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani announced the formation of a blah, blah, blah. He's running. Unbeatable if the GOP can stomach running a candidate who is essentially a Democrat on all social issues. His problem, at least with his base? This picture:



McCain: Hitched his wagon to Iraq, started kissing fundamentalist ass, and brought new meaning to "Straight Talk" when he endorsed the failed Arizona anti-gay marriage ballot measure. This is his last chance at the presidency and the stench of desperation will be overwhelming. I would have voted for the '04 McCain, not the '06 one. I don't think the voters see it yet though. Special Bonus? McCain is the Howard Dean of the GOP. Almost all the party muckety-mucks HATE him. See also: Fun with the Internets: Who's the Maverickiest of Them All.
