Are you worth at least $2,200?
Posted by Seth Kramer on Tuesday, December 19th 2006 at 2:08amAre you worth $2,200? I know, Barney told you that you were special and valuable, but Barney's species died out 65 million years ago, so what the hell does he know, eh?
Anyway, according to a recent study if your assets, less your debts, total more than $2,200 you are more weathly than the average person. YOu may have heard that old saw, "Half the world lives on less than $2 a day", but remember that's a measure of spending.
While many in the US and Europe have massive incomes compared to the rest of the world, we often don't consider how massively steeped we are in debt. As a result, your average two-dollar-a-day Peruvian may be much better off than a single mom raising two children in a mortgaged 3 bedroom, 2 bath house with a HELOC, financed furniture, a Mastercard, and a 10 year-old student loan.
It's an interesting thing to think about as you go about your last minute holiday shopping.
PS. Sorry for the recent silence. The holidays get busy like that. What can I say?
