Big, long thing #150, at the Stennis Space Center Marathon in Stennis, Mississippi. A two loop course, very flat, but mostly along service roads in the space center. Not much support (crowd’s quite limited when you have to go through security) and the race caters to the half marathon from what I can tell. A lot of water stations were unattended by 3.5 hours in. It has the potential to be a very fast marathon but I lollygagged with new friends and old. Fun fact: Stennis is home to the largest collection of oceanographers in the world. (NOAA has its most significant presence here)
Welcome to NASA’s John C. Stennis Space Center
Morning at Stennis.
Did I mention that bib pickup was at a rest area. Weird.
This lunar module was at the rest area where packet pickup was held.
The view for most of the race, kind of dull and desolate.
NOAA building along the course.
Glen and I are both on state 49 today. I’m doing the second time around, Glen, the third.
This was the cheer squad.
Neat
After packet pickup I headed down to the beach for a shot of the gulf.
Long sleeve cotton tee
Cute medal.
Bib. Interestingly the half marathon bib was the same (including the word marathon) only blue. The 5k was yellow also with marathon. 5k marathon I guess?!
