I love that ultras could be confused with a family barbecue sometimes. Marathon or longer number 164 was the July installment of the 8 Hours of Hell series in Oscar Scherer Park just outside Sarasota. The course is a 3.25 mile loop consisting of 1 mile of beautiful Florida trail run followed by a mile and a half of Jeep road and finally three quarters of a mile of sugarsand almost all of which was exposed to the sun when it wasn’t hiding behind the clouds. There were concerns about rain, and we got some for about 2 minutes into mile 2. Just a splash to top off the humidity. Fun fact: There is an Amish community in Sarasota named Pinecraft where Amish and Mennonite families vacation due to the proximity of a community and the Mennonite Tourist Church.
I have feelings you know…somewhere. Maybe in my other camelbak.
One of competitors.
Feels like 104. Yep about right. That is the exact face I made, woman with the nasal cannula.
Fort Lauderdale legend Tuan Nguyen won the 4 hour event. Congratulations! Through what I can only assume is some faulty mathematics I appear to have finished 4th. Check that math again Radley.
Fun fact: Spanish Moss is neither Spanish nor is it moss. Twalk amongst yaselves…
A beautiful day.
Some of the beautiful views of the creek from the first mile.
I do not like you, Sand I Am I will not run you in a pit I do not give a single shit. Lesser known Seuss
View from the Jeep road of sunburnination.
Returnees get a pint glass and a dog tag with their performance at the previous race.
Aforementioned dog tag. Now to get that dog. He’s going to have to have a REALLY tiny neck.
My bib before I sweat, bled, cried all over it. So pristine.
