Big long thing #173 complete at the Anthem Richmond Marathon. A relatively flat trip out of town along the James River (the Jim to friends), and back into the Virginia Commonwealth Capital. Well supported and lots of coaches helping along first timers. I don’t know if it’s the friendliest marathon as billed, but it’s certainly up there. I’ve been experimenting with a ketogenic diet for a few weeks at the behest of my trainer and I’ve come to the conclusion that while it may be good for losing weight it’s terrible for me running distance. I have some friends for whom this is their jam, but I said screw it at mile 13 and grabbed a Dixie cup (ironic here) of Skittles and I never felt better. Fun fact: Patrick Henry’s famous “Give me liberty or give me death” speech was made in Richmond’s St. John’s Church.
