30th Florida marathon done at the Palm Beaches Marathon. A flat, road marathon along the intercoastal waterway. They somehow managed to make the course even more dull than last year by removing the portion in Palm Beach. So rightly this is the West Palm Beach Marathon. Support folks were great but the sun was relentless and I found the doodley course monotonous, particularly the second half. I believe if I do this race again I may restrict myself to the half. Fun fact: Just North of the northernmost turnaround at Manatee Lagoon in bicentennial park you can take a shuttle boat to Peanut Island, a man-made island between Palm Beach Shores and Riviera Beach. On this island President John F Kennedy had a presidential nuclear bunker built. It’s now open to the public.
