Big Long Thing Number 189 at the Mississippi River Marathon a point to point road marathon from Lake Village, Arkansas across the Mississippi River to Greenville, Mississippi. It was a cold, windy, overcast day that made miles 8-22 an endless slog against a biting wind. I set a goal of 4 hours and missed it by almost a minute per mile. Oh well. The course itself was rather boring but it is rare in that it offers an opportunity to claim by most club rules the race for either, but not both, states. For me, this was an Arkansas race. For my travel companion Gary, it was Mississippi. Fun fact: the start at Lake Chicot is the largest oxbow lake in North America. An oxbow lake is formed when erosion or flooding causes a meandering river to connect more directly. The oxbow lake has a distinctive U or C shape once the new path is formed.
