Chicago Marathon 2016

Lifetime marathon or longer number 97, the 33rd of the year, at the Chicago Marathon. 3:58:42 a sub4 I didn’t need or intentionally try for. It’s been almost 3 months since I finished a marathon in under 4 hours and this is a huge psychological boost I really needed. Fun fact: In the first running…

Inaugural Fort4Fitness Marathon 2016

Lifetime BLT #96, #32 Year to Date. Fort4Fitness Marathon. No fog today, just got tired. First half was <2 hours, but the back half I was trying to keep it under 4:15. I missed it by a couple minutes. The course is designed as 4 loops. You do a 3 mile loop, then do the…

Berlin Marathon 2016

Ich kann laufen, aber ohne Leidenschaft. I can run, but without passion. Lifetime BLT number 95, the 31st of this year. It’s a big city race with a lot of jostling, not really my thing, but even still it started well. Consistent splits for 7 miles, then I found myself in a fog, running 1.5-2…

8 Hours of Hell (FL) 2016

Lifetime BLT (Big Long Thing, marathon or longer) number 94. Number 30 for the year at “8 Hours of Hell,” part of a series of six 8 hour events through the summer in southwest Florida. Today’s race was in Coloosahatchee Regional Park in Alva, Florida. The course consists of mostly singletrack BMX course with a…

MedellĂn Marathon 2016

Medellin Marathon in Colombia. Marathon #93, #29 year to date, 4th country, 4th continent. Mediocre time. Altitude and some seriously macerated feet from a rain storm before we started led to some ugly blisters. I can’t tell you how beautiful and kind the country and people are here. The marathon however is lackluster. Boring course…

American Discovery Trail Marathon 2016

Another disappointing finish. So I got dealt double deuces for the weekend. At least it was pretty. I’ll have to make some changes to my training routine and come back to Colorado for a 5th time. Fun fact: Colorado Springs gets its name from General Palmer’s Springs Company. No, there never were any springs in…

Jackson Hole Marathon 2016

Sometimes everything just comes together. This was not one of those times. It’s a finish anyway. My third Wyoming marathon. 91st lifetime marathon or longer, 27th of the calendar year. You’d think at a certain point I’d get the hang of this. We’ll try again Monday. For now, good views, great friends, and free beer.

Lean Horse Ultra (50M) 2016

My second attempt at a 50 miler. When I signed up for the Keys 100 50 mile race I was asked at registration “Can you realistically finish in under 10 hours?” And my reaction was “yeah,” but I asked some ultra running friends I deeply respect, one of whom offered to give me training advice….

Pikes Peak Marathon 2016

It has been observed that “Nothing worth doing is easy.” By that benchmark, The Pikes Peak Marathon is very, very worth doing. I have a shiny new personal worst marathon time (8:22) but I had a great day, had a heck of a challenge, and got to hang with the likes of Jim Fisher, Tom…
