Last year Grandma’s was a goal race for me, but in the last 3-4 miles it slipped out of my fingers and I decided to goof off. It was a reminder that I do this for fun. This year it was not a goal race, and a couple friends had some travel issues and we became surprise travel buddies. As for the race, light hills, but a net downhill along the lake. A touch warm, but better than last year. I took my time and hung out with people as I caught up to them. It made it more enjoyable. I forgot the weird little endless scramble downtown and my Garmin. What can I say? I’m still learning the ropes. Fun fact: Lake Superior is the remnant of glacial Lake Duluth, its basin is the collapsed shell of a dead volcano.
