2018 Onward Shay! Marathon

Posted on October 28, 2018July 24, 2019
State #20 for the 3rd trip through the states done today at the Onward Shay! Marathon in Boise, Idaho. Cool and overcast weather made for ideal conditions running along the largely flat Boise River greenway. Plenty of support and mike markets at every single mile. Unfortunately I’m experimenting with this near carbless diet and I bonked by mile 8, and had GI issues (which never happens). Anyway, that’s over. Fun fact: Rushmore sculptor Gutsam Borglum and poet Ezra Pound are native Idahoans.
The start
Marimba Boise is even better than Flugelhorn Valdosta.
Idaho city. Total tourist trap and not worth your time, but the hour drive is a treat for the eyes. Full of hairpin curves as the road follows the Boise River Basin through the Ponderosa pine of Boise National Forest.
More doggie porn from the City of Trees
These folks were finishing a marathon in memory of a loved one who had passed this year. He was training for this race. Also this is a Marathon Miss Marple Silver status race. So hopefully he doesn’t expose one of them as having cut a corner or something.
Cancer survivors plaza
Boise‘s volcanic basalt cliffs are stunning. The picture hardly does it justice.
I miss seeing the fall colors.
Ring your own damn cowbell.
I’m not usually about posting rental car pics but my therapist suggested I needed to be more spontaneous so I went for the loudest car on the lot (so not me) as my act of spontaneity. I have named him “Tigger.” The car, not the therapist.
A bit of the sylvan river along the greenway if you look in the distance you can see a deer in the water.
Again with the doggos
Freak Alley, a Boise downtown street art exhibit since 2011.
Can’t imagine why they call it the city of trees
Basque community center. Fun fact: Boise has a community of about 16,000 Basques, and you can find a Basque block in the historic district of downtown Boise.
Matt a maniac I shared the first 8 miles with

Guess which native Idahoan sculpted this
Take all the damn pictures you want

I really don’t understand why this race is Wizard of Oz themed, but go on with your bad self.

Medal. I guess. 🤷🏼‍♂️
